Licensing
Last updated 15 September 2026
Music from The Rights Foundry is licensed royalty-free. You license a track once, and you can then use it anywhere the license covers, for as long as you like, without paying again per play, per view or per territory. There is no subscription to keep alive and nothing to re-register when a project ships.
What a license gives you
- Perpetual: the license does not expire and does not depend on your account staying open.
- Worldwide: no territory restrictions within the media the license covers.
- No ongoing royalties or reporting: nothing to file, nothing to account for later.
- Alternative versions: where a track has instrumentals, stems or edits, they are covered by the same license.
- Cleared at source: every track in the catalog is cleared for both the recording and the composition, licensed directly from the artists and rights holders who made it. It is human-made music with a documented chain of title, not AI-generated audio.
License types
Each purchase records the specific license you were granted, and the type is shown on your receipt and in your dashboard. The types are Stream, Sync and Portable Sync, which differ in the media and distribution they cover. The exact scope, permitted uses and any limits for the license you buy are set out in the license agreement issued with that purchase, which is the binding document. If you are not sure which type a project needs, ask us before you license.
What a license does not cover
- Reselling, redistributing or sublicensing a track as music on its own, including in a sample pack, a music library or a stock catalog.
- Using the catalog, its recordings or its metadata to train, fine-tune or evaluate a generative audio model.
- Registering a track, or a work containing it, with a content-identification system as though it were yours.
- Claiming authorship of the music, or using an artist’s name or likeness to endorse something.
How licensing works in practice
You browse or search the catalog through the website, the REST API, or an AI assistant connected to our MCP connector. Browsing and searching are metered against your account’s credits. Licensing a track is a separate, deliberate step, taken through the API with your own account or by an AI assistant you have connected to it. An assistant can license only through the connection you approved, is instructed to confirm the track with you first, and is charged to your credits like any API call. You can revoke its access at any time from your dashboard.
We keep a record of every license granted, so that you and we can prove it later. That record outlives your account, because the license does. See the privacy policy for what that record contains.
Content claims on video and social platforms
Royalty-free does not mean unregistered. Music can be identified automatically by platforms such as YouTube even when you hold a valid license. If a track you licensed from us is flagged, contact us with the license and the video or channel, and we will help resolve it.

This page is a plain-English summary. The license agreement issued with your purchase is the binding document; where the two differ, the agreement governs.
